Random Mumble’s

leave a comment

I must say I’m wild sorry. About a week ago I promised that I’d have a post that night. Well for any of ye waiting (I hope there was a nice orderly line :-P ) an update is here.

Since my last post I got through the big freeze, a trip to Wales, 4 days over Christmas in beautiful Donegal and those lovely Christmas tests. I was dreading these quite a bit and the tension only increased when I saw that Maths and Physics were together on one day. Not only that but it was Monday. Maths first on a Monday morning is not nice and even worse………I was only getting in from Wales at 6pm on the Sunday after the Munster game. Thankfully the tests wern’t as bad as the game and I got a bit of a surprise when the results came in the post. Although there was not one A on the page, there was the equivalent of 475 points. Delighteddddddd

Both the college courses I’m looking at would be fairly accessable with those points if I came out with them in August 2012. As for college, I’ve been doing a bit of reading up on different things. One big draw is Journalism in DCU or UL. If anyone has any expierence on those courses or any info……do tell. Mabye it’s destiny because only last week I got picked to become part of the editorial team of UCC’s CONNECT magazine. All those attending the spring open day in April will get a mag so any mistakes in it i’ll apologise on here :-)

The other college course drawing a bit of attention on my part is Elec Eng in UCC. It is being pushed big time at the minute so mabye I’m just being sucked in hahahaha. The National Elec Eng quiz was on today all over the country and amazingly my team managed to win both the UCC round and in the process also became All Ireland Champions. A Shock….Yes. Expected….Nooo. We were the very first 5th years ever to win it. Wow.

Back in school everything is pressing ahead full steam. In Physics we’re gone onto Waves, We’re nearly finshed Hamlet and our Irish novel Tig Na Tit Orm (Which we now only do 9 chapters of :-P ) is nearly done. Regional Geography is a doddle really and we’re hitting projectiles in Applied Maths in our after school class.

I guess thats it for now. I’ll try and keep these updates  a bit more often if possible.

I decided to be a sheep today, and just go along with the general flow of blogs.. CAO & Christmas tests? Fairly calm about both actually. I’m expecting evil eyes for admitting this, but I filled my CAO out in November. The week CAO opened. I was bored that week.. Needless to say, I’ve tweaked it slightly, putting down a few random courses for the craic, but overall it’s consistent. At the moment, it says:
1. Trinity Law and German
2. UCD Law with Politics
3. DCU Economics, Politics and Law
4. TRINITY Business, Economic and Social Studies (BESS)
5. UCD Business and Law
6. Trinity Business Studies and German
7. DCU European Business (German)
8. Trinity Computer Science, Linguistics and German
9. DIT Journalism with a Language
10. UCC Government
It used to have a lot more Law courses, but Law & German has stayed on top. I LOVE German. Me & German are tighter than JD & Turk. Oh yeah.
So other than that: Christmas tests. We didn’t have them. Since we missed three weeks of school, official exams were cancelled, to be replaced by class tests. It was HORRIBLE! Picture this: Still having to do the same tests, just with less time / spread out, while still receiving homework. Can’t say I’m a fan of it.. But I did a test in English, Irish, Geography, Applied Maths and German.
English – Haven’t gotten back. It was basically only the A part of a comprehension. If I fail, I will be amazed.
Irish – An average of 72.5%. I got 13/20 in poems & stories, then 32/40 in A Thig Na Tit Orm. It’s grand.
Geography – 96%. Definitely happy with this
Applied Maths – 70%. It’s okay-sh :/ I got the highest, which may say something about the test, or else the class (including me) is just thick.
German – Average of 89.5%. A reading comprehension, listening comprehension, oral & Schriftliche Produktion. Pretty happy!
In the rest of the thrills & excitements that my life consists of, my Parent Teacher Meeting was two days ago. Happy with that too, was given predictions of an A in German, Home Ec, Geography, & maybe Maths. B in Irish & Applied Maths, and my Bio & English teachers didn’t turn up.
I apologise for the dullness of that blog, it was clearly uninspired. With the amount of homework & after school things, I have no energy to construct full sentences, never mind interesting ones. I pinky promise to try come up with enthusiasm next time!

A fail of a post.

ciarat Forgive me bloggers for I have sinned, it has been two months since my last post. Okay, I just checked and my last post was written on the 8th of November. Today is the 8th of January and now that I think about it, the LC starts on the 8th of June. What can I say, I like patterns. Of course I have a list of reasons for my absence (yeah, whatever helps you sleep at night Ciara):

1. Christmas tests (original excuse, I know).

2. Results of aforementioned tests. Don’t get me wrong, I did fine but I was disappointed with a few of them so I tried to put in a bit of extra study to make up for it.

3. Internet boycott following aforementioned results of aforementioned tests (word of the day: aforementioned). I decided to do this because my study time consists of going on Facebook and complaining about my lack of study. Also, I realised that I remember a status a girl in my French class wrote about her rabbits two weeks ago, yet I don’t remember the French word for rabbit. Or the French word for anything… Anyway, in what seemed an attempt to spur me on in my boycott, my internet broke the week of Christmas.

4. Christmas. Who could possibly think of Calculus or the formation of a cliff when there’s mountains of food and every Harry Potter/ Indiana Jones movie ever made on TV? A stronger person than I, that’s who.

5. Internet catch-up session following aforementioned internet boycott following aforementioned results of aforementioned tests (otherwise known as stalking).

Thankfully other bloggers have been dedicated enough to keep the homepage fresh. Reading through all the posts, I’m glad we all seem to be in the same boat. However, I still haven’t filled out my CAO (I could commit the most rebellious act, which is to fill it out at 5.14 pm on the 1st of February).

I’m going to have to cut this short because I still have an essay to do before we go back to school (someone is going to have to drag me out of my bed kicking and screaming Monday morning).

Au revoir, mes lapins!

For all of you lucky people who are doing Dancing at Lughnasa you’ll completely understand the title, for those of you who haven’t, you’ll live ;)

3 classes of 6th years went to see Dancing at Lughnasa in Galway today. Buses broke down, trains got mixed up, beautiful sights on the motorway ;) . Good day though. Dancing at Lughnasa is actually quite good on stage. For any of you who seen Hamlet in The Helix last year, the actress who played Ophelia played Rosie and to be honest, I thought she did a much better job at Rosie. Then again, I’m no theatre critic :P

Oh, the tests I was supposed to have last time I blogged? Cancelled. Woke up to a phone call from my best friend asking me was I going to school.

“Of course”, I said.

“Look out your window”

“Oh right, Yeah, no”

So school was cancelled and I was housebound for 4 days. And I’m telling ya, cabin fever hit hard. By the time Friday came and I was going to Childline, I was going, hell or high water.

And I did :) Childline was class. McFly were my favourite followed closely by Olly Murs and The Wanted. I’d never call myself a “pop fan” but as I’m getting older (the ripe old age of 18;)) my music taste has definately mellowed, along with all of my friends’. I dunno what it is, but once your faced with exams, something upbeat and happy doesn’t seem so bad :)

The worst thing about not having school was having all our tests pushed together. On Tuesday I had French written first, then Double Biology test after lunch then Double Physics after that. Twas a fun day :P lol jk it was awful.

Anyone miss the green? You know that colour? Normally leaves and fields are that colour. I’m sick of white and then off shades of white as the days progress. .

Only16 days till Christmas. :)

Something about the Coca Cola ad just mades me so excited :D That and The “Ho,ho,ho” Cornflakes ad :)

Till next time,

hi everyone :)

Sorry for my lackage of posts recently. Honestly when I said I’d take up this blod I’d hoped to blog at least one a week or one a fortnight at a push but then again I had never been in 6th year :P

How’s everyone Christmas Tests coming along? Mine aren’t going too bad. I’ve figured one you come to 6th year, no test really matters except the mocks or the real thing so getting stressed over small tests is pointless. In saying that however I’ve just spent the last four hours doing French and Physics study. I really cannot stand semiconductors. Or anything that involves any sort of particle physics. My mind is now swimming with n and p junctions and random french vocab . .

Since I’ve last blogged I’ve been at two open days and we’ve had 3 talks in school. Talks on DCU,TCD and NUIM and I went to the DCU and Maynooth open days.

The talks were interesting but I have to hand it to the Maynooth speaker, she was very good at her job. Even though it was last class she managed to keep a room full of tired 6th years (and some 5ths) completely engaged for 50 minutes. No chatting or whispering or even just general noise making like the other talks, she just kept everyone interested. I think it was because she spent a lot of the talk just talking about college in general but still towards the end she made you really want to go to Maynooth, just because she was so good!

The DCU and TCD talks were also quite good but didn’t make such a big impression.

I went to the DCU open day and thought  it was really nice :) The campus was lovely. There wasn’t as many there as I thought there’d be. I went in thinking about Physics but came out seriously thinking about Biotechnology. Just shows again how much of an impression a speaker can make on you!

Went to Maynooth last Friday. Love the place. Such a pretty campus and the town seemed so friendly. Their Science course looks really good so definitely thinking about there. It all seems so far away when I’m so bogged down in books :(

Cannot wait for Friday. Last Christmas test AND I’m going to see childline :D

Gonna Be a good weekend :)

Hope everyone isn’t snowed in:P

It’s November 8th, too soon to be talking about Christmas Tests, surely?

ciaratTo quote the little old women at my bus shelter, “It comes earlier and earlier every year”. Okay, so they were talking about Christmas and I would normally complain too about the early arrival of everything Christmas-related but not this year. Everyone seems so down and out about the Budget and just the state of the country in general that I say, why not talk about Christmas? I don’t know about you all but for me I can think of no happier time. Two weeks off school (even longer this year though), mouth-watering food, busy shops, a nice cosy fire at home…Okay, snap back to reality Ciara before you break into song. What I was trying to say when I started writing this (yes, would you believe that this actually leads to something exam related?) was that while I have no problems discussing Christmas now, I think it’s too soon to start talking about about Christmas Tests. The sad thing is, the Christmas Tests are before Christmas. Crap.

Yeah, the second we arrived back last week the teachers started calling out prescribed chapters for the exams and before you know it, everyone has made study timetables and Granny has started lighting the candles for them at mass. I’m sat here wondering where to start with all my study…Times like this I’d really like a crystal ball. Or a photographic memory. Maybe if I get Granny to light an extra big candle I might get one of the two. I think a trip to the library is in order this weekend, without my friends in tow because let’s just say they make it hard to study…ever play Hide and Seek in a library? I have. I need to finish the second draft of my History RSR anyway.

In other news, we got our Drémires this week. I know, the fun never stops in my life! For anyone who doesn’t know, it’s like a mini Irish book with essays and grammar tips, etc., aimed at LC students. It’s handy but I find the comprehensions too complex. I’ll stick to my Foinses for the most part, thank you very much. My French teacher advised our class to pick our documents for the oral in the coming two weeks. Is she serious? The oral is months away! I don’t know what to pick, any ideas? I was thinking of a picture from the Gaeltacht but I just know that’ll put me in the Irish language state of mind that I really have to avoid, considering it’s a test of French. She said it could be a picture of anything but the other class’ teacher told them it really should be French-related, so they’re all picking French movies (the same one) and French celebrities. Unfortunately I’m not as absorbed in the culture, although I like croissants (cliché much?).

I’m going to start studying in a few minutes (I promise) and then reward myself with some TV. The Apprentice- I’m addicted! And I do Business so it’s practically educational.

Just hear those sleigh bells jingling…

CiaraHey everyone, I’m in such a good mood today!

And why wouldn’t I be? The tests are done and dusted with almost all of the results received (more about that in a minute), the school workload is decreasing, The X Factor final is tonight and Christmas is less than two weeks away! This also means two weeks of lie-in’s, good TV and lovely food! I love Christmas so much!

So yeah, I got the tests back and…drumroll…I PASSED MATHS! It was such a relief because the test was so hard and I’ve lost my flair for maths that I had in Junior cycle. I got 57% and if I’d attempted all the questions, attempt marks could’ve brought that grade to 60%. It was so unlike me not to attempt every question because I’ve had it drilled into my brain to ‘always try everything because you’ll always get attempt marks!’ I just panicked when the test proved to be so hard and there were some I had no idea how to solve! So everyone out there who doesn’t know already (although I’m sure you’re all smarter than me on this one), ATTEMPT EVERY QUESTION!

Maths was my lowest and my highest was in Business. I’m really getting to like Business a lot now, mainly because the Business results are always my highest! The Apprentice is also encouraging me to take an interest. As much as I want to do Journalism, in the past two years I’ve got a slight ambition to do Sales and Marketing. Ah well, I won’t think about that for another while!

I was pretty pleased with my other subjects but I still have to get my History test back. Hamlet is getting really exciting in English so I’m looking forward to the class, despite having one of the worst teachers ever! I think most people have that one teacher they don’t see eye to eye with and she is mine, although she’s not as bad as I once thought.

And guess what? My Irish teacher is a suspected John and Edward fan! I was nervous getting back my test, purely because I mentioned them in my essay on the recession in a maniacal moment. She’s not the type you’d normally joke with so I was shocked when I got two ticks beside the sentence about them and a comment stating how nice the opening paragraph was. Two ticks! I’m lucky to usually get one tick!

Hope everyone who has tests gets on well and remember my tips for today;

1. Attempt every question!

2. Even if you have a teacher you don’t like, don’t let that discourage you from work.

3. Mentioning John and Edward in tests could bring you success!

Timing problems….

katieNote to self: Always check start time of open days before going.

As the above suggests, like a fool, I took the only 109 bus to Belfield on Friday the 4th for the UCD open day. Got up at 6.30 and caught the bus @ 7.15, with my brothers who do this every day for school. I was really happy with myself, and it looked like there were lots of others on the bus with my idea of getting in early to beat the crowds. Well I certainly did that! At Belfield I got off the bus with the two remaining people, both students. Oooppss!
Well I suppose it meant that I got to see a lot of the campus! I spent the first hour wandering around trying to look like I knew where I was going! Lol! It’s so big! Actually huge! Nearly too big methinks =/ Did anyone else go up? Don’t get me wrong if I got the chance I’d go, but it probably won’t be my first choice!

How was the week for everyone else? We started getting our test results back…….. They actually didn’t go that badly, surprisingly. It’s a nice feeling to know that all the work you’ve done has paid off =D I was delighted with my B1 in Irish because it was so close to an A (84%) so almost there! English; meh, my teachers an easy marker. Basically anyone who hands up work gets an A. I got an A2, but I would have given myself a C!! Biology was something similar. And I passed my maths!! I was full sure that id failed so my D2 (47%) was a nice surprise =D Still waiting on some results but over all im pretty pleased =) For this time of the year anyway they’re ok…….Most of the stress ha had been piling up over the last few weeks has now been relieved….. what a feeling!! But there’s one part of my routine that’s still missing; exercise! Now I would consider myself afairly active person, especially during the summer, but now I’ve no time! Its not that im super image concious, I’m not! But I know its important to be healthy, and well healthy body, healthy mind! I did try to build 20mins a day into my time table but well, it hard to face into an accounting question at eight o clock when you know you still have chemistry to do =( Does anyone else have this problem???

Saturday night was my first night out since mid-term, and it was brilliant! It was an 18th so yes its allowable! Actualy its was a double surprise 18th. Now, surprises in Kells never are very surprising, bt this was! YAY =D The twins didnt have a clue!! Athboy was dead quiet but we had a great night. Its ok to treat yourself once in a while…………. so im going out next weekend too =P

Only two days of school this week, and Trinnity open day too. What more could you want? I love walking down Grafton street when all the christmas lights are up. CHRISTMAS SHOPPING!!! Well I think it will be window shopping for the mo …. broke!!!
Anyways I hope everyone has a good week…. I had better get back to some study =/
