Okay guys so the Prescribed poets for 2011 course are Eavan Boland, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, G.M Hopkins, Patrick Kavanagh, Adrienne Rich, William Wordsworth and W.B Yeats.
My teacher has decided we are definitely not doing G.M Hopkins and William Wordsworth. After yesterday's paper 2, Kavanagh,Rich and Yeats came up. So that leaves Frost, Dickinson and Boland. Would I be safe to just study these 3 for next year? or is it possible that a poet could come up twice in a row?

When you're serious about starting to study this early on, you shouldn't feel you have to narrow your choices down to 3...
And anything can come up, as seen yesterday when we all hoped for Boland.. Do 5

i'm not actually studying yet, i'd prefer to enjoy the summer!
I'm just curious because i know that a lot of people were banking on Boland and then she didnt come up. What other 2 do you think i should study? Like i said our teacher is not doing 2 of them?

Oooh.. Well you're only meant to do 5 anyway..Your teacher will go through them, if you know what each poem is about and know a few quotes to back it up, and a few broad sentences on the poets pieces then you can talk your way around any question! Don't rely on just the one, we all saw what can happen when you do that! Sure Longley was one to watch this year after he was meant to be on the paper last year but then he didn't appear on the contingency paper and this is the last year he's on the course.. Alot of people in my year last year were banking on him.. And this year too.. I think we can all lean a lesson from that!

since your starting 2 study now...i advise you not 2 narrow it down i marrowed it down 2 3 this year and none of them came up...so i pretty much wrote a page on kavanagh that i made up!!do about 5 poets...relax...you have loads of time to learn them well...good luck!!

honestly if this year has taught more or less every 6th year out there at the moment dont take the risk!just because Kav Rich and Yeats came up this year doesnt mean they wont put them on next year..it sucks!im just lucky that I had a strange notion that I should cram Kavanagh wed night- I only had Boland and Longley done before that!so basically do your 5 poets!
