You can't take any extra subjects unless you've registered for the paper with the department form you would have filled out in December or Jaunary.

Unless you have amazing memory, I really wouldn't recommend it. Anyway, as stressedout said you have to fill out the form.
Why are you thinking of sitting economics if you haven't done it before??Posted 1 year ago # -
Well you should of registered that u were doing it because i think it could possibly be too late to put down that your doing it now.
thats crazy though dont put too much stress taking up a brand new subject, im repeating the leaving this year and took it up at the start of the year and its tough going, all my friends thought i was a joke for taking it up because i really have only started studying two months ago, and theres ALOT to take in and grasp,i do business so i kinda find it abit easier but still...
Why dont u just concentrate on ur other subjects more? aim to get a b3 in all of them?? I would highly recommend to rethink about taking it up like!
Have u any economics books, notes, revision books or anything?? You could easily get a d3 but i dont know, maybe higher depends on how good ur memory is!! Saying that u could fail it too, puuure risky!!! what other subjects are u doing??

nothing venture nothing gained. if your thinking of doing it don't try and cover it all it is far too wide. i would recommend that you study your market stuctures ie oligopoli (Especially), perfect comp, monopoly and imperfect comp. also study national income, the factors of production. these three sections come up every year nearly without fail. by the way you have to do four of eight long questions.

You are kidding yourself if you think you can bullsh*t business - there is a specific way to answer business questions. LCVP is much easier if you have business.
lambert, I think you are mad to try it, and I don't know if you can actually sign up to take another paper. You would want to have an excellent memory to learn all that you need to pass in a few days

Seriously, there's loads of defs that have to be pretty spot on, formulas, graphs, etc. I took it up this year and there is definitely more to it than reading the irish times!

Rebel girl, it's Economics that I'm considering taking up, I already do Business Studies and I've also done LCVP, I just think with those two subjects I will already have a good base to work on for Economics? No?

I know it economics that you are taking up, but you said that you can bullsh*t business, which you can't.
Economics is a big step away from business from what I can see. You can see for yourself, go to examinations.ie and find last years economics paper and see how much of it you can do. Business requires a huge amount of learning. I see that you have posted on another thread about taking a risk with English, because you don't have enough time - I think concentrate on the subjects that you have and forget about this, putting unnecessary pressure on yourself

I actually looked at the paper, and in the short questions business related pieces came up - but the long qusetions, you would not have a chance with, there is a small overlap between the subjects but not a huge overlap, not enough to allow you to do what you want to do and pass

I think that people think economics would be fairly handy what with it being plastered all over the news. And by the way, business is most certainly not easy, and you can't really bullshit if you're expecting a high grade, there is definitions to be learned and specific ways of answering questions, it is definitly my hardest subject - and I do higher level maths and chemistry. Anyway, I was going to use my sister as an example, she did economics for three years and was reallly good at it, knew her stuff perfectly, then did the leaving cert, got a B3, was kinda disappointed as she thought she'd pulled off at least an A2, maybe even an A1 because the exam had gone well. Then after viewing her script in August, she saw that she had gotten an A1, but that it had been marked by the supervising examiner and the chief examiner, and she'd been brought down at 3 or 4 stages, at what must've been a change in marking scheme. Anyway, my point being, there must be a certain percentage of A's and a certain percentage of fails in any given subject, if you don't know your stuff, you'll only make it easy for them. I'm not saying don't do
it, do it if you like, I wouldn't recommend it, but I think at this stage, having nit done it for the lenght of time that everyone else has, you're putting yourself at a huge disadvantagePosted 1 year ago #
