no you should study at least 6 poets and 6 poems.. another one is a female poet has to come up so try studying boland and rich really well...but dont trust me 100% on that cuz im not 100% sure..but i remember hearing it somewhere.

The general trend is for a female poet and an Irish poet to come up, I remember for my LC, it was Mahon and Boland that were tipped to come up, think Rich as well. But they could have just put up Boland, which covers both.
Its a long standing trend, but you still can't depend on it.

im only studyin 5 poets coz theres only 8 on the course and only 4 actually appear on the paper and then you choose 1 of those 4 to write about..so if you do 5 that means theres a chance that the 4 that appear on the paper may be the 3 you didnt do and 1 you did (kinda removing your choice) and if you do 6 it means the 4 that cum up 2 of them you have to have studied allowing you to have a choice (of course theres no reason y if u study 5 that all 4 that cum up on the LC paper you could have covered!)
as for the numbers by each poet id keep to about 6-8 making sure that the poems you choose cover a broad range of themes (ie dont chose 6 poems that are all about love mix it up a bit!)
personally im only studying 5 poets coz each year a woman comes up along with an irish poet (so im studying both female woman on the course plus all the 3 irish poets..and with 5 im garunteed 1 be on the paper!(or possibly 4!))
of course if u struggle with english or dont feel confident doing 6 may make you feel more confident as u know that on the day of the exam the choice off 4 poets that cum up you will defo have studied 2 of them therefore giving yurself a 100% chance of getting a choice!

i have seen many sample answers and they deal with 4 poems. i dont see the problem learning 5. thats 25 poems. which is alot

Yes, it is alright to study only 5 of the 8 poets as you are guaranteed that at least one will come up. However, choose the 5 poets carefully. Walcott and Keats came up last year; so while one of them could make an appearance on the paper this year, it is unlikely that both will. I'd leave them out.
I can't recommend which other poet to leave out. I'm repeating and we haven't even started poetry yet!
Good luck choosing!Posted 2 years ago # -
When people say that there's six poems to learn for each poet doesn't that just
mean that you study them six poems in depth and then learn quotes from each one??Posted 2 years ago # -
no i have a good grinds teacher and she says base all your poet questions on 3 in depth and use the other three as reference to emphasise your point and use them as examples... If you go into too much depth with all you will not deal with the question in enough detail to what is being asked..... you will over write and run outta time going the long road around that could be answered in better concise version//

you dont need to do 6 poets for teh exam, at the end of teh day you only write on one.
I'd say do three of teh tiped ones to come up (i'd do Longley, Rich and Kavanagh)
At thay you should get two outa them 3.Do 4/5 poems in detail. But you just have to mention 6 poems in your introduction.
