the institute of education ,dublin(best school)

I do spanish so no help there ,sorry

but in the institute we have 4 different english classes.

one for language, poetry, single text and another for comparative study .

all with different teachers so separate your paper and practice.

learn your different genres e.g. argumentative, persuasion, narration.
    -it really helps

do you learn about kavanagh's pegs ? or poet's pegs?

paulol, enlighten us as to what poets pegs are rather than making unhelpful comments like that!

Public school has been shown to be as good, if not better than some fee paying schools, whose primary focus is on examinations, and not holistic development, which is way more important

in fact, one of the schools being held up as an example by the inspectorate is a public school, that does not feature high up in the league tables, but gives a much better overall level of education

Paul, there has been people getting A's in poetry answers in my school that never have used your "peg" system. I presume it's some sort of acronym so why don't you just enlighten us instead of filling us with your IOE arrogance??

gymnastforeva try doing out lots of practice answers in english and getting your teacher to correct them its the best way to improve your standard!with german i think the key is to learn a set of vocab for all the topics because you never know what myt come up and it'll help in comprehensions too and know your letter start and end!!less stress is a brilliant book id really recommend it!

and paulol i got an A in english without knowing about poets pegs and i went to a public school so don't judge something you know nothing about

Ok ladies and gents, lets get back on topic, or I'll be closing this thread

    Question is

How much studying is evryone planning on doing over Christmas?.. and are you planning to take a break for a day or two and then start after Christmas day?.. or is everybody starting straight away?

I think maybe do one or two days this week, since you are still kind of in school mode, if you know what I mean - take a break then until after St Stephens Days, and start again. Quality over quantity - if you feel like the stuff isn't going into your head, take a break and do something, then go back to it

listen guys didnt mean to cause a kinda row over this...

A peg is something we use to attach an object to another.
-most commonly when people think of a peg they think "washing line"

a poetic peg is aspects of a particular poet ,which allow Us to connect with the poet.
    - kavanagh for example is confessional(peg one),exceptionally ordinary (two) and religious (three)

All of the above are aspects with relate to kavanagh(example)

is that enough detail to explain a peg??

and for Just-me... don't think i am a snob from foxrock going the tute , i am far from that, and have gone to a public school for 3 years,a bad one at that.

I am glad you got an a but i dont think 40% plus of your school will..

the reason i'm gettin C's in english is because i just don't have a huge vocab because i didnt read.i'm trying my best at it and thats all i can do.we obv don't use "pegs" in my school but we use other methods loads of people in my class get A's because they can do english it's just my worst subject on the other hand i'm pretty good at biology and irish because i get A's in them

all i can do is keep trying my best and once i'm happy with what i get thats all that counts right??

even if i didn go to a private school like yourself that wouldnt make me better at english than i am.i have a good teacher i just can't do poetry simple as that.but i'll keep trying

    thanks guys for your help
