You'll think I'm crazy but Japanese should definitely feature here. After you've learnt the alphabet - which isn't that hard to do - the exam paper is a joke! I mean you're even given time in the oral to prepare your answers!!

Hi Sweetie,

there will be a question on theme/thematic element of the play, and character. Focus on the key themes and characters of the play, as the questions will most likely fall under these elements. E. g for characters focus on Heathcliff, Catherine, Nelly, young Catherine and Edgar, and think of how to praise, criticize and sympathize with them, as the question will fall under these three categories in a certain way. For themes think of the likes of social hierarchy, love, revenge, the supernatural, nature versus civilization, narrative techniques etc.

ok; for french you can't learn off essays and written expressions per se, but you can have some things prepd. like have a generic opening and closing paragraph to a diary entry. one ALWAYS comes up and you can get a lot of marks for having a good opening, a good closing, and the right lay out. i can send you one if you need.
haven't a clue for home ec, don't do it sorry!
for english you want at least four poets done pretty well but if you're stuck and willing to risk it maybe only do two or three that you know really well. the likely ones for this year are eliot, boland, longley and then either yeats or kavanagh, so i'm leaving out rich, walcott and keats.
hope this helps a little <img src="http://www.allhonours.ie/answers/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":-)" class="bb_smilies" />

For me, my favourite subjects are Biology, French and English. Like allTOOlaidbackfor6thyr said, you need to work out what subjects you like and will do best at.
Although not my favourite subject, I chose Chemistry for leaving cert, because it was either that or LCVP, and I really wasn't bothered doing that, since the max points you can get is only 70. I'm glad I chose Chemistry! My teacher says they have reduced the course a lot because hardly anyone was doing it for leaving cert. Also, if you do a fair amount of work, it's easy to get an A.
So far, I haven't found anything too diffucult about Chemistry. The stoicheometry is quite difficult at first, but after a bit of practise it gets easier! So I would consider it a good choice for leaving cert.

Well for me it's French and Chemistry, but that's becuase I like them, I don't know many people that like chemistry. With langugages it also can be a bit precarious as marking can be subjective, I was an A student for most of last year and ended up with a B in the exam because the paper was too easy (and also the oral, but you know) Allthat I'm saying is that try to find subjects that you, above all, like because if you don't like it you'll tend not to work at it, like myself and business. A lot of people on this thread have said business but, for me, business is one of my moat difficult subjects, I've only gotten one A1 in it this year and that was on a test which was purely maths based, which I prefer. So you need to decide which subjects suit you, and also those that you may need as requirements for college courses as you don't want
to cut down your choice at this early stage

With history, you get the chance to do 20% before you even sit the exam.
you write a 1200-1500 (Roughly 5 pages) word essay (HL) about a topic of your choice.

Home Economics is very like Biology. So doing the two sorts of backs each other up. things you learn from HE can be used in Bio, and Vice Versa.

Languages (French, German Spanish, Italian) are always great if your good for learning things. <img src="http://www.allhonours.ie/answers/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_biggrin.gif" title=":D" class="bb_smilies" /> basically you learn your vocab, and in the exam you read something in french, answer questions on it. then write a letter, diary entry, note, or e-mail etc. and you have your aural and orals then your done <img src="http://www.allhonours.ie/answers/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" />

It all depends on what you're good at, really.

If you're someone who prefers technical details, then I suppose it's off to the sciences for you. If you're more of an airy fairy person, then Art and English could do wonders for you. Have an interest in varying cultures? Then various languages it is then.
