There may be specified in the answer but if there is not pick an audience.<br /> 2) Think about what material/ content this audience would respond best to - pick a central idea, and develop this through several sub-ideas/ paragraphs etc.<br /> 3) Think about what way the audience would best respond to this material/ idea - should you be serious/ humorous, formal/ informal etc? Focus on the language too - should you use sophisticated/ simple language, slang etc?<br /> 4) Finally, ask yourself which of the five language genres you are being asked to write under. When you have decided upon your audience and the ideas and how you will communicate these to the audience, think about what you are being asked to do with these.
