can u not get a teacher to help you?it is possible to do the course in a year with the right type of mind set (ie try to skim down topics to what play to your strenghts ie theory or maths) and set aside time to study as if u had economics in school. give urself realistic goals. i am a teacher who is currently doing it as an extra subject with two leaving certs and if u wanted help (grind or teacher in subject) im sure you could get some. where are you based and i dont want to assume you do, if its in the cork area i could help?

Thanks and best of luck,
Nicola

I wouldn't do accounting ... I did it for a few months in fifth year and I got so confused and changed to bio :/ And I loved accounting in JC ... I'd say business cos I have a few friends doing it and then love it

economics or business i suppose...its mostly theory..its a lot of reading and learning but its pretty straight forward.. i did business at home myself. And apparently economics is pretty much the same

You would expect GNP to be less then GDP because net factor income from the rest of the world is negative because:
there is more foreign companies in ireland who repatriate profits back to there home country then irish firms abroad who send profits back to ireland
the foreign element of the national debt
foreign nationals who send money back to their home country

this is the proper answer and will get you full marks

"In Ireland at present, would you expect GNP to be greater then, equal to or less than GDP? Explain your answer."

I'm so terrible on this section and if it ain't in my notes, I'm lost when it comes to these supposed "common knowledge" aspects of economics.

At a guess, I'd say that GNP would be less than GDP because GNP in only taking into account what Irish owned factors of production are producing and the income generated by them only whereas GDP is taking into account the value of output in the economy regardless of whether it is Irish owned or foreign.

Am I somewhere on the right track? Any help would be much appreciated! (Y)

I think that people think economics would be fairly handy what with it being plastered all over the news. And by the way, business is most certainly not easy, and you can't really bullshit if you're expecting a high grade, there is definitions to be learned and specific ways of answering questions, it is definitly my hardest subject - and I do higher level maths and chemistry. Anyway, I was going to use my sister as an example, she did economics for three years and was reallly good at it, knew her stuff perfectly, then did the leaving cert, got a B3, was kinda disappointed as she thought she'd pulled off at least an A2, maybe even an A1 because the exam had gone well. Then after viewing her script in August, she saw that she had gotten an A1, but that it had been marked by the supervising examiner and the chief examiner, and she'd been brought down at 3 or 4 stages, at what must've been a change in marking scheme. Anyway, my point being, there must be a certain percentage of A's and a certain percentage of fails in any given subject, if you don't know your stuff, you'll only make it easy for them. I'm not saying don't do
it, do it if you like, I wouldn't recommend it, but I think at this stage, having nit done it for the lenght of time that everyone else has, you're putting yourself at a huge disadvantage

I actually looked at the paper, and in the short questions business related pieces came up - but the long qusetions, you would not have a chance with, there is a small overlap between the subjects but not a huge overlap, not enough to allow you to do what you want to do and pass
