Hi, i admire how you really want to go back and work for what your dream is! Good on you!

I just sat the L.C last year, biology being my favorite subject, and like you i also attempted to get into medicine,i didn't but im doing science and then hopefully post grad medicine will work out.
I think that you'd be well able to study biology at home. The books I used were discovering biology-it was easy to understand and it had a dictionary at the rear,i also used the revise wise for biology. If your at home you'll need to be able to either understand FULLY the experiments on the course or somehow actually do them which can be hard for some.. i bought a lab prep book, its written by David Bourke,i had him as a teacher in lesson street. Its 10 euro and well worth it,have a look :

http://www.schoolbooks.ie/23873-Biology+Laboratory+Notebook+Folens+School+Book

The new course is really focused on experiments so that's important.

What id suggest is that you just work your way through the biology book, from start to end, chapter by chapter. Try to give yourself little tests after each chapter and whatever chapter you have completed make sure you do exam questions from previous papers on it! Go to examinations.ie for free papers on ANY subject.

Just have an open mind (like you seem to do) and work slowly towards finishing the book. The main Topics i would suggest you do and get out of the way are: The cell,DNA&RNA,Genetics,Genetic engineering, the human body ie. all the systems, osmosis, Darwin's theories, Ecology, Bacteria.

Hope everything works out, for extra notes or help you can check out these sites:
http://www.skoool.ie
http://www.sparknotes.com which is AN EPIC SITE!!! <img src="http://www.allhonours.ie/answers/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_biggrin.gif" title=":D" class="bb_smilies" />
and google itself ha!

Good luck!! <img src="http://www.allhonours.ie/answers/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_smile.gif" title=":)" class="bb_smilies" />

Ok, the first thing you really have to understand is there is no point in barganing with yourself in terms of hours in study. It is a bad idea as the time will pass regardless of the effectiveness of the study. By saying "I will study one chapter of Business" is much better than saying "I will study one Hour of Business". Chances are you will not complete a chapter in an hour so you will have just diminshed the importance of your study.

If you are doing OL French do not put a huge amount of effort into it, You still will have 6 Higher subjects which will be much more important in terms of points. Still aim for a C3 in French just to have the specific entry requirements for college, but you probably will not find that very difficult.

Accounting and Maths mainly revolve around constant and careful analysis of past exam papers. If you keep practising your papers over and over you should be ok. Pick your favourite topics and constantly do more exam papers. In Accounting especially timing should be strictly kept to. Q.1 should get around 55 minutes if you are doing the Final Accounts with Changes Q.

Remember your State, Explain, Example in Business and know your Applied Business Question to the last degree.

I think you will be fine in Leaving Cert. Just keep focused on what you would like to achieve and never lose sight of it.

<img src="http://www.allhonours.ie/answers/bb-plugins/bb-smilies/default/icon_biggrin.gif" title=":D" class="bb_smilies" />

i think that you should spend around 3 hours studying depending on your schedule
i studied 3 hours a day for my junior cert but im a study freak.
3 hourss very tiring though and you should probally stick to 1 1/2 hours or 2 as you are more likely to study better if you relax too
for french and irish put up posters to improve your vocab
also what i did with english was putting quotes up on the wallsfrom my novel and play it really helped

Well I suggest start studying asap! It's really hard to fit in a few hours studying everynight because I know that everyday when I came home from school I was always exhausted. I was ready to go to bed as soon as I had my homework finished. I would suggest maybe an hour during school nights nd then 2 hours a night during weekends. You can build that up the closer you get to exams.

Are you doing honours or pass? I would practice speaking to yourself in a mirror for the orals. I was so nervous for mine but they're actually fine. It's just like having a normal convesation. The examiner was really nice and if you didn't understand the question just say and they'll try find an easier way to phrase. You won't lose marks for not understanding as long as you can convey that you don't understand and can keep the convo going.

Flashcards are a really good idea. For any subjects and my teacher did mind maps with us for maths. They were really useful. For example we chose one topic like geometry and then just had all the formulas and examples written on it. It was just an easy way to learn as everything was one the one sheet and it was laid out well.

Mind maps were good for English as well especially when writing essays. And I also wrote out all my quotes and had them hanging on the wall in my room. It was covered in sheets with english quotes. It was good for learning because even if you're not really looking at them you're still taking them in.

For Irish poetry I would suggest you be able to translate all your poems into english or be able to write them out simpler irish.

Hope that's helpful.

Hey, so I'm going into 6th year and I was just basically wondering how many hours the people who have just done the leaving spent each day studying. I'm aiming for quite high points, definitely up in the 550's anyways. Also if any of yous have any study tips feel free to jot them down for me. My subjects are English, Irish, maths, accounting, business, biology and French.
