Do you think Dickinson uses contrast effectively in I heard a Fly buzz- when I died? Discuss one contrast you found particularly striking....view answers
Hi, this is going to be super rushed but I might have enough time to put an idea in. I think the contrast here is that Dickinson is describing a scene of going from life into death. in the 1800s when she lived the moment of death was revered because you would return to God ("when the king be witnessed in the room" (i dont have the book on front of me so the quote might be wrong ) so this is a big spiritual moment, and a fly, the most normal and common thing, 'interposed'. some would even find flies disgusting and it would contrast completely with the beautiful moment they would believe reuniting with God would be.
