In Ireland it survived where Irish language has ,donegal ,Mayo galway Kerry cork . It's most vibrant in Connemara gealtacht in the west of ireland ,
It is a highly skilled ornamented type of singing ,solo art form and it's unaccompanied,words tell the story in the performance the singer does not use dynamics or expression and hand gestures & body movement are very rare
Ornamentation
Allows singer to put their individual stamp on the air. There are many types of ornamentation performer can add crushed grace notes or fill intervals with extra notes this is called embellishment. For example Sno Singers like lilis o lair from Donegal who embellishs her songs by filling intervals with extra notes and maire begley from Kerry in her version of an draighneen Donna uses ornamentation on the words o loim creating suspence ..
